CELLS

Cells are the smallest elements that store energy. They come in two packages, cylindrical ones and pouch-cell ones. The different types of cells have different characteristics depending on the power, energy, temperature and lifecycle requirements.  Cells as such are not made available unless to volume OEM customers. Kurt.energy will assemble the cells in modules with additional monitoring logic depending on the specific requirements of each application.

Cylindrical cells

Cylindrical cells are produced in 3 standard formats; 18500, 18650 and 23680. For detailed information consult the datasheet in the Documents section. Below the most import specifications are listed. 

Specifications for 18500 cells:

  • 3,2 V, 1,0 Ah, 2000 F
  • Rated energy: 3,2 Wh
  • Energy density: 100 Wh/kg, 236 Wh/l
  • Comparable to LFP cells but with supercapacitor benefits
  • Rated power: 1500 W/kg, peak 200 ms 5000 W/kg

  • Operating temperature: -20 to + 70 °C

  • 2,7 V, 1,3 Ah, 3300 F
  • Rated energy: 3,2 Wh
  • Energy density: 80 Wh/kg, 181 Wh/l
  • Comparable to LTO cells but with supercapacitor benefits
  • Rated power: 1500 Wh/kg, peak 200 ms 5000 Wh/kg
  • 19,5 C sustained capable
  • Operating temperature: -40 to + 80 °C
  • 50000 lifetime cycles

Specifications for 23680 cells:

  • 4,0 V, 4,0 Ah, 5000 F
  • Rated energy: 12,5 Wh
  • Energy density: 200 Wh/kg, 442 Wh/l
  • Comparable to NMC cells but with supercapacitor benefits
  • Rated power: 300-500 W/kg, peak 200 ms 500 W/kg
  • 1 – 1,25 C sustained capable
  • Operating temperature: -40 to + 80 °C
  • 10000 lifetime cycles
  • Volume production: 1Q 2020

Pouch cells

Based on the same technology, these pouch cells deliver a higher energy volume density. Still in the pre-production testing phase and not yet commercially available.
